In response to online trolls who called Jennifer Love Hewitt “fake” for posting a selfie this month, Hewitt didn’t hold back.
According to reports, the actress appeared in an Instagram post by her hairstylist, Nikki Lee, and some online users immediately called the star out for her altered appearance.
“This was after Jennifer got a bob cut and dyed her hair a beautiful brown. Was time to mix things up,” her stylist said as a caption for the photo.
Fans of the 44-year-old were eager to flood the comments area with observations, as is customary whenever a star makes a noticeable change to their appearance.
While many were effusive in their praise, several detractors suggested that Love Hewitt’s appearance was the result of plastic surgery.
Several critics referred to the actress as “unrecognizable” after she gained popularity with I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997).
Love Hewitt decided to respond to her criticisms by sharing a series of images that played on the idea that she had transformed her look via some sort of surgery, even though it is typically standard practice for celebrities to just ignore their critics and naysayers in such instances.
“So many people said I look different”, the actress wrote.
“I look the same as always. Couldn’t look more natural. I woke up like this. Filters don’t change you that much.”
Hewitt’s face was obviously altered with a variety of filters in these ironic snaps.
Even if they’re exaggerated, the actress still wants people to be nice when commenting on others’ images.
She concluded her message by saying, “Let people be filtered or unfiltered. Be good. Be kind. Spread love.”
Love Hewitt’s appearance was criticized earlier this year as she celebrated her 44th birthday by posting a photo to Instagram.
“Woke up at 4am and was 44! I am deeply grateful, blessed, happy, sometimes insecure about aging, a mom of three incredible babies, married to the most handsome and awesome man, and really excited to see what this year has for us,”her post read.
“I feel magic in the air and I love magic. Off to work… thank you mom for giving me life. I miss you so much. Gonna get my job done and my birthday cheers on later. Ps Atticus got up way too early and sang me happy birthday! My heart melted. Now go have a great day everyone. It’s my birthday you have to do it! ❤️”
Then, many people commented on how shocked they were by the change in appearance of the former child star.
“I saw this picture in an article and thought they made a mistake because I didn’t believe it was JLH, I didn’t even see a resemblance. I came to Instagram to double check and I am shocked,” one person wrote.
“Why doesn’t she look like herself? I’m so confused,” another added.
“That’s not her,” a third claimed. “It can’t be.”
